When Bay Path opened its doors to students in downtown Springfield in 1897, it had a very clear goal: to provide a practical, affordable, and career-oriented education to meet the needs of companies, organizations, and communities. From the beginning, Bay Path prided itself on being entrepreneurial, constantly pushing the boundaries of the academic experience to fit the student. To start them on the road to success. We still do.

Today, that spirit and philosophy are more important than ever in higher education. At Bay Path, it’s not just the number and breadth of undergraduate and graduate programs that define us—and we have many—it is our ability to connect the classroom to learning to leadership to experience to career that is at the core of what we do best. We know the work that needs to be done.

At Commencement, after receiving their diplomas, graduates pass under a banner with the University’s motto, Carpe Diem. Seize the Day. Our students know better: they seize this day…they seize this moment. We have done our job.

Bishop’s University is a predominantly residential, mostly undergraduate university. Our primary concern is offering students a quality education in the fine arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business and education. The residential aspect of our small size (2,900 full-time students) encourages students to immerse themselves in the complete Bishop’s experience.

Centrally located on a 375-acre site in the southern San Joaquin Valley, California State University, Bakersfield is home to the Roadrunners — moving forward at lightning speed and championing intellectual progress. CSUB continuously rises in national rankings for its economic value and commitment to student success. Its students are brilliant and increasingly diverse — with the majority of graduates remaining in the Valley to solve our region’s complex challenges.

The university serves more than 11,000 students at either the main campus in Bakersfield or at CSUB Antelope Valley, and counts approximately 60,000 alumni from its four schools.

Upon the ancestral land of the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians, CSUN’s history begins in fall 1956 as the San Fernando Valley campus of the Los Angeles State College of Applied Arts and Sciences. Soon afterward, the California Legislature passed an assembly bill, which decreed that the campus would separate from its parent college on July 1, 1958—the founding date of the present university. The college was renamed San Fernando Valley State College.

By the dawn of the 1970s, San Fernando Valley State College had established a solid foundation and began honing an identity that would be recognized both regionally and nationally. On June 1, 1972, by action of the Legislature and the Board of Trustees of the California State University, the college was renamed California State University, Northridge, known affectionately and for evermore as CSUN.

Today, CSUN attracts students determined to create thriving careers, purposeful lives and to build a brighter and more equitable future for all.
